Luminar

Paolo Gentilini
by Paolo Gentilini
"Luminar” - a heavenly body that gives light, enlightens and inspires others. Inspired by manga, anime and steampunk, this collection of eight digitally manipulated photographs focuses on a character’s journey through a post apocalyptic fictional world. On a ruined planet, shrouded in darkness, a young man embarks on a lonely journey through the ruins of an old society. In search of himself, he follows his own source of light: the Moon, which sets a light of hope. His very goal is neither concretely nor allegorically shown by the author, as he rather lets us guess. “When a world ends, there's always something left over. A story, perhaps, or a vision, or a hope.” - Sandman, #51: "A Tale of Two Cities" This collection is part of a unique multi-media audio-visual exhibition that features additional surreal sculptures and engaging light installations. Luminar was firstly showcased in 2018 in the artist’s hometown Rovinj, Croatia and later at the Fantastic Zagreb Film Festival (Tunel Grič, Zagreb) as well as the Serbian Fantastic Film Festival (SKC, Belgrade) where it won the 1st prize for the best light fixture exhibition.

Notitle (Blue)

I am interested in how this project causes a transfer of private emotion to the viewer/a broader audience. This project came to be during my residency in Maine/USA in the summer of 2009 when I was there for 2 months, surrounded by chosen artist in pure nature. I have wanted to make a project on waiting, about the process and time, on questioning ideas and reflections such as art and love. At that time I was thinking a lot about works of Felix Gonzalez-Torres. I was filming myself (from behind) gazing at the lake every day for 40 min (this daily process was very important ). Among the footage of about 48 hours there was this image - "Blue". In this image, in that particular moment, in that particular second - the "blue" just came out surrounding my figure, probably caused by a malfunction of the camera and different light coming in.
Surreal spaces

Surreal spaces

by Igor Taritaš

In essence, we can't observe space just as physical form. Space is not ‘just the space’ we live in, created from matter and substance, light and shadow and its harmony. Space, above all, gives life. Space is a being with multiple dimensions. Living in spaces, we become them. Through the deconstruction of space and digital collage, I achieved desired artistic expression of metaphysical space that permeates loneliness, melancholy, uncertainty and transience. I build my spaces by collaging fragments of my paintings and photographs. In several spaces I place figures from famous works of art and place them in a new contemporary context. These are “Gleaners” by J.F. Millet and “Stone Breakers” by G. Courbet.

Don't turn your back on me

Don't turn your back on me

by Renata

While starting to work on the concept for Partenza, the history of painting as well as the whole art history that I studied became very important to me. With this project I wanted to change my approach to art making and to deliver the narrative as a painter would do - exclusively through visual compositions, without dialogues or a narrator. Prior to Partenza, I made a series of collages titled Don't Turn Your Back On Me. This eventually also became the title of this book, enclosing the subjects that preoccupy me – collaging of the past and the present moment and intertwining history of art (in digital media) with contemporary artistic approach. The correlation between the past and the present, our treatment of history and the facts commonly accepted as truthful, as well as rewriting of historical narratives (sometimes used by state apparatuses to exercise their power over people, their memory and value systems), are all recurrent motifs in my practice that combines documentary and fiction elements. On these issues I based many of my previous works, such as Ruta and The Monument (2009) and afterwards Staging Actors/Staging Beliefs (2011).
